You can copy and paste this path into the registry navigation bar.

Step 3: Now right-click on the Disable Antispyware key > Modify > Change the value from 1 to 0.

Step 4: Save these settings and now close the registry editor.

Now open Windows defender and click the Restart PC button. Now you can see that the problem has been resolved. Windows Defender is now fully functional.


Sometimes due to certain services, you may face “An unexpected problem”. These problems can be easily fixed; to overcome this temporary problem you must reset the problematic service.

  • Now, you need to open the Task Manager. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager.
  • After opening the Task Manager, go to the list of startup applications. Right-click on the first entry in the list and select Disable from the menu. Repeat this step for all the startup applications present in the list.
  • Disable all startup applications, close Task Manager, and return to the System Settings window.
  • Click Apply and OK to save the changes, restart your PC.


Sometimes when system files get damaged or misplaced from their real location, the defender will start to display an error message.

Run the SFC scan on your system. First, you need to open the command prompt with administrator privileges. To do this, press Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Administrator) or PowerShell (Administrator) from the menu.

  • Now, in the command window, type ` / scannow and hit the ENTER key

  • Open the command prompt again with administrator privileges.
  • Now, type DISM / Online / Cleanup-Image / Restore Health and hit Enter key to run this command.
  • The DISM command will scan the files on your system. This entire process will take up to 30 minutes to complete.

After finishing the DISM scan, check your system for errors.

  • Open the Control Panel by pressing Windows key + I
  • In this Windows, you will find the option in the left pane of the window: click Turn Windows Firewall on or off.
  • Now, choose Enable Windows Firewall and restart your PC / Laptop.
