Many folks dream of settling down in a tropical oasis come retirement. Fortunately for those who reside in the U.S., there are some magical places available right in our backyards. Florida is one of the top locations to live out your sun and surf dreams. And no need to worry about having to be retired to move here. There’s plenty of employment at some of the biggest names in the infrastructure industry.

Walt Disney World

One of the most magical places on earth, Disney World is located in Orlando. And although it is located in Orlando and would technically be considered the city’s largest employer, Disney World is considered its city within itself. Not necessarily one city, but two municipalities that govern themselves. These two municipalities would be Bay Lake and Lake Buana Vista.

It’s vital to note in this situation that Walt Disney World Resort as whole spans many areas of Florida and the park along with hotels, golf courses, and other attractions. Walt Disney’s ultimate goal was to create an oasis where families could live and play. Additionally, the word EPCOT stands for “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow”.

The employees of Disney have famously coined “cast members”. In 2020, Walt Disney World employed over 77,000 cast members at their Florida location. It’s the single largest employer in the U.S. as a whole. Many of the cast members are true, die-hard fans of Disney and all it represents. These folks live a life of magic every day!

Orlando Public School System

Teachers are in luck if they are looking to settle down in Orlando. The Public school System is another of the largest employers in the Orlando area. Teaching is one of the most challenging professions and there is quite a high demand for them at this time in the U.S.

Teachers in Orlando can make around $43k to $70k a year. This holds some weight as salaries for teachers in other northern states tend to average lower. Houses for rent in Orlando average around $1,500-$2,500 a month for 2-3 bedrooms. A family hoping to settle down where the palm trees are would love the cute towns and districts of Orlando.

But schools aren’t the only place you can find employment. Florida is one of the biggest states in the U.S. and they put the big in big business. Companies such as Darden Restaurants and Publix are some of the brand names that have large headquarters in Orlando and the surrounding central Florida cities. Lockheed Martin, a significant manufacturer of aerospace, arms, and defense equipment, has only two headquarters in the U.S. One of these is in Orlando and they are considered an excellent employer that pays well with plenty of room for growth.

Adventhealth

This hospital system was formally known as Florida Hospital Orlando. Adventhealth Orlando is consistently ranked as one of the best hospitals nationally for their cancer doctors and treatments. Additionally, they are ranked in the top 50 in the nation for neonatal, neurology, and diabetic treatments.

Working at Adventhealth is considered an above-average employer. About 78% of the previous and current employees would recommend working there to a friend. Many large healthcare facilities struggle to take care of their staff. Adventhealth shows that they do as much as they can for the residents of Orlando.

Whether moving for retirement or moving to start again, Orlando proves to be a great choice for those looking to soak up the sun. Although the sun and beaches of this sandy state may sweep you off your feet, you should always be aware that this area can be prone to natural disasters. However, on your first visit, you’ll be hooked.
